Crush Alert is the fourteenth book in the Beacon Street Girls series. It was published by Aladin MIX, an imprint of Simon & Schuster, in 2009. The book is written by "Annie Bryant," a pen name for a group of writers who work for B*tween Productions, which produces all BSG items.
Crush Alert revolves around Abigail Adams Junior High (AAJH)'s Valentine's Day Dance. In the book, Maeve desperately wants Dillon (her main crush) to be her date for the dance. It's obvious that Dillon is not interested in her, so she tries to win him over by playing soccer and pretending she needs a new tutor. This does not go well at all. Dillon starts to develop feelings for Avery, and asks her to the dance, but she refuses for Maeve's sake. Instead, Avery insists that Dillon ask Maeve to the dance instead. Dillon understands, and does, much to Maeve's excitement. Meanwhile, Isabel is excited about the dance and signs up for the decorating committee. But at one of the meetings, Kevin Connors (her sort-of crush and friend since book ten) reminds her that she says she'd help out at the local homeless shelter (Jeri's Place) the night of the dance. Isabel is torn, but ends up agreeing and has fun helping the kids make magnets. Charlotte has her own issues, too. She gets worried that Nick does not like her after he starts spending lots of time with Chelsea (he only spends so much time with her because Chelsea wants to see her crush, Trevor), and accidentally forgets a meeting he'd planned with Charlotte at Montoya's Bakery. They make up and end up going to the dance together.
The night of the dance, everything goes fine until Maeve discovers Avery asked Dillon to invite her to the dance. While the BSG is in the bathroom discussing the problem, Nick sees Chelsea looking sad and asks her if she'd like to dance. They have fun until Charlotte sees, and runs outside crying. Katani and Maeve join her, and after a quick chat they return to the dance. Maeve meets up with Riley Lee, the lead singer of the band Mustard Monkey who's her friend and also has a crush on her. They end up singing a song together, and Maeve realizes she has more in common with Riley than with Dillon. As Charlotte and Nick are walking home, Nick kisses her on the lips, which makes Charlotte feel very giddy. The BSG definitely have a fun Valentine's Day.
This book is one of the few that were originally designed by Monica Roe and never had another cover. On the Beacon Street Girls website, they had a poll to figure out the title of the book. One of the other popular ones, that came in second, was First Kiss.
